R-value
R-value continues from Part of the Process Part 2, a series of works that began in 2017. It considers course of action from analogue to digital similarly exploring colour, mark making, paper size, exchange values and worth in reproduction and selling.
The works start from drawings made at home, recording Alessandra Sormani’s thoughts and emotions during the Covid-19 lockdown from March – July 2020. By activating A-size papers, blueprints of her emotions during unprecedented times were outlined. Her thought patterns ruminate into a collection that resemble tracings of interchange as a physical manifestation of an attempted therapy.
In an attempt to alleviate rumination on Covid-19, heartache and loss, repetition by marks on paper lifted anguish on a virus, love and death. Drawing became a meditative ritual facilitating an alien focus. On completion of filling an A-size sheet of paper from edge to edge, nonentity patterns configure something akin to an R-value, measuring routes of human emotions in time via marks on paper, consequently resulting in a sense of possibility and reconciliation.
The titles for the drawings record paper size, ink pigment, pen dimensions, date and the time of completion. Subsequently digitised and made into limited edition prints, numbered and signed by Alessandra Sormani. These edition prints are then titled according to in camera settings and editing adjustments generated in the post production process of the work.
Editions are available printed edge to edge in A0, A1, A2, A3 and A4 sizes. They are printed on high quality fine art paper each signed, dated, titled and numbered in pencil on reverse, with a supplementary certificate of authenticity.
